Ask the Score

Ask questions about the open piece, get cited recordings, generate a program note on demand, and turn a suggested program into a collection.

Ask the Score is the piece's own chat. Open a piece, open its About panel and pick the Chat tab: every answer is about the score you are looking at.

Ask a question

  1. Type a question, or tap one of the suggested-question chips above the input field.
  2. Answers that cite outside writing list their sources in a bibliography you can expand under the reply.
  3. To keep an answer with the piece, open the reply's menu and choose Add to preface — it joins the piece's preface notes in the About tab.

You can hide any suggested chip, add your own questions, and change the chip colour in the chat's settings (the info button in the About header).

Get a program note

Tap the suggested question Write a program note for this piece. The note arrives as a chat reply for you to read and reuse.

Note The app does not turn program notes into files. If you want one on paper, copy the text from the reply's menu and format it in the app of your choice.

Turn a suggested program into a collection

Ask for contrasting repertoire or a recital program around the piece. When the reply includes real catalogue works, they appear in a From the catalogue card — each row opens that work's Properties.

  1. Under the card's rows, tap Add as collection.
  2. A collection named after the piece (for example Recital — Clair de lune) is created with the current piece and the suggested works.
  3. The confirmation reads Saved to your collections as …. Rename or reorder the collection in your library's Collections view at any time.

Answers on your iPad

When your iPad supports it, turn on Use Apple Intelligence when available in the chat's settings: answers are generated on the device — free, private, and available offline. Questions that need sources from the web still use the cloud.

Next: Collections or Practice with reference recordings.
