# Current beta notes

The reviewed state of the current beta — platform baseline, what is stable, what still needs per-device checking, and where to find your build number.

> Type: Reference · Status: Beta · Platforms: iPadOS 17+, iPadOS 17+ · Last reviewed: 2026-07-18

## Platform baseline

- iOS or iPadOS 17 or later is required. [Requirements](/docs/start/requirements) lists device and permission detail.
- The documented workflow is iPad-first. iPhone builds use a compact layout; feature parity with iPad is not asserted.
- The beta installs through a TestFlight invitation and appears on the device under the app name `iTurner`.

## Read your build number

Beta builds ship often — typically several in one week — and fixes are identified by build number, not by version. The `Version` row in `Settings` does not change between beta builds, so the build number is the identifier that matters in a problem report.

1. Open the `Catalog` tab.
2. Read the stats line under the works count. Its last entry is the build, for example `build 322`.

TestFlight shows the same number in parentheses after the version on the app's page.

> **Note** `Settings` → `About` lists a `Version` and a `Bundle` row but no build number. When [Support](/docs/support) asks which build you are on, read it from the `Catalog` stats line or from TestFlight.

## Workflows treated as beta

> **Beta** The features below work, but their result depends on the score, the device, permissions, account state, quota, or network access. Verify each one on your own material before a lesson or performance.

- **`Follow` live tracking and automatic page turns.** Needs a score prepared in `Trainer`, microphone access, and a network connection: during a live session the app streams short segments of microphone audio to the alignment service. Start with the [Follow overview](/docs/follow/overview); if tracking is unreliable, use [Troubleshooting: Follow](/docs/troubleshooting/follow).
- **Smart Score conversion and correction.** A completed conversion does not establish musical accuracy — compare the result with its source and keep the matching PDF for source reference and supported printing. See the [Smart Score overview](/docs/smart-score/overview) and [Troubleshooting: import and conversion](/docs/troubleshooting/import-conversion).
- **Harmonic analysis and generated fingering.** Both are generated suggestions to review against your edition, not editorial ground truth. See [Analysis](/docs/practice/analysis) and [Fingering](/docs/practice/fingering).
- **Face-gesture page turning.** Uses the front camera to detect mouth-open, eyebrow-raise, and head-turn gestures, and requires camera permission. See [Hands-free control](/docs/accessibility/hands-free).

Two switches in the `Following` section of `Settings` control what `Follow` shares beyond live alignment: `Share anonymous follow data` sends usage statistics (piece, tick count, lost-tracking duration — no audio, no identity), and `Share follow audio for model training` is off by default. Both are described in [Data and audio](/docs/privacy/data-and-audio).

## On-device answers with Apple Intelligence

On iPads with Apple Intelligence (M-series or A17 Pro and later, iPadOS 26+), `Ask the Score` generates its answers on the device — no network round trip and no added cost — when `Use Apple Intelligence when available` is on in `Settings` → `Ask the Score`. On other devices the toggle is unavailable and answers come from the cloud service. Questions that pull published sources (Deep Research) use the cloud on every device.

## Stable foundations

The following work locally and are treated as stable unless a page states a narrower limit:

- Import of the [supported file formats](/docs/reference/formats).
- Library organization across `My Library`, `Collections`, and the `Catalog` ([Organize your library](/docs/library/organize)).
- Fixed-page reading, manual navigation, and manual page turns ([Navigate](/docs/reader/navigate), [Page turning](/docs/reader/page-turning)).
- Core PDF annotation ([Annotations](/docs/reader/annotations)).
- Recording a take locally ([Record a take](/docs/follow/record-take)).

Your library lives on the device. iCloud backup is opt-in: nothing is copied until you run `Send to iCloud now` in the `iCloud` section of `Settings` or set a routine sync cadence there, and `Import from iCloud` brings back anything in the backup that is missing on the device. See [Sync and backup](/docs/library/sync).

> **Limit** The `Settings` layout is still being consolidated during the beta: a control can move between sections — or into the reader's `Toolbox` — from one build to the next. If a documented control is not where a page says, check the [Settings reference](/docs/reference/settings), which follows the reviewed build.

## Known documentation boundaries

- No claim is made about App Store availability or pricing; the beta is distributed through TestFlight only.
- The interface ships in English; complete bilingual coverage is not claimed.
- Offline operation of cloud-dependent steps (live `Follow`, Smart Score conversion, cloud chat answers) is not claimed.
- Identical iPad and iPhone behaviour is not claimed.
- Published format support is limited to the maintained [file-format reference](/docs/reference/formats).

For a problem, start from the relevant troubleshooting page — [Follow](/docs/troubleshooting/follow), [Import and conversion](/docs/troubleshooting/import-conversion), or [Sync and performance](/docs/troubleshooting/sync-performance) — before contacting [Support](/docs/support).
