# Import from another app

Send a PDF or MusicXML score to Page Turner from Files, Mail, Safari, AirDrop, or another score app.

Send a single score straight to Page Turner from the app where you found it, without saving it and importing it later. The score arrives through the same pipeline as an in-app import: Page Turner works on a copy, the score lands in `My Library`, and the same automatic title and composer detection runs.

1. Open or select the score in Files, Mail, Safari's download view, or another score app.
2. Tap the system `Share` button, or long-press the file and choose `Share`.
3. Choose Page Turner in the share sheet. Depending on the source app, the entry can appear as `Copy to Page Turner` or under `Open With`. If it is not listed, scroll to the end of the app row and add it from `More`.
4. Page Turner opens and imports the file. The original stays in the source app, unchanged.

## Formats the share sheet accepts

iOS offers Page Turner as a destination for these file types only:

- PDF (`.pdf`)
- MusicXML, plain or compressed (`.musicxml`, `.mxl`)
- IMSLP score bundles (`.imslp`)
- Page Turner share packages (`.sheetturner`) — see below

> **Limit** A score saved with the bare `.xml` extension is not offered to Page Turner in the share sheet, and neither are images, MEI, MIDI, ZIP archives, folders, or multi-file batches. Import those from inside the app with `Add score` > `Import files…`, where the picker does accept `.xml` — see [Import files and folders](/docs/import/files).

## What happens after the handoff

**PDF and IMSLP bundles** are imported on the device. `My Library` scrolls to the new score, and a `Suggested metadata` sheet opens with the detected title and composer (from the filename, or from the bundle's own metadata for an `.imslp` file). Choose `Apply` to accept them, `Edit` to open the full editor pre-filled, or `Skip` to keep the filename. If the score strongly matches a piece already in your library — same catalogue number, or a near-identical title and composer — a review sheet opens with the message `Looks like a new version of "…"` so you decide what happens, instead of a silent duplicate. **MusicXML files** are checked and prepared on the Page Turner server, so this path needs an internet connection. The limits are the same as for an in-app import: 50 MB per file, and a file that cannot be read as a usable score is rejected with a `Couldn't import` message rather than added. ## Receiving a Page Turner package

Another Page Turner user can send you a piece as a `.sheetturner` package, by AirDrop, Mail, or Files. Opening the package shows a summary of its contents; select `Import` to add it to your library, or `Cancel`. If the package arrives from iCloud and has not finished downloading, Page Turner reports `Couldn't read` with the file name — download it fully in Files, then open it again.

## Storage providers

To import a score from Dropbox, Google Drive, or a similar service, use either of two paths: share the file from the service's own iOS app with the `Share` steps above, or pick it from the service's location in the system Files picker — that location appears once the service's app is installed and enabled in Files. > **Important** Confirm that you have the right to copy and use the score. Importing a file does not change its copyright or sharing terms.

> **Limit** Some apps share a web link, a preview, or a protected attachment instead of the underlying file. In that case Page Turner is not offered in the share sheet, or the handoff fails. Save the actual file to Files first, then import it from there.
